Review: "The Cattery" by K.A. Merikan
The Cattery - K.A. Merikan

"I'm gonna pet you so good on the inside."

Too tame for a kinky erotica and too shallow for a full-on romance (I never felt any true connection between Goran and Ollie outside of the bedroom).

Plus reading about grown men meowing during sex has not once felt NOT weird.

At least I can cross off "cat play orgy" from my "Things I want to read before I die" list, so there's that.

Review: "Role Play" (Play, #1) by Morticia Knight
Role Play - Morticia Knight

"I love you, Phil, Sir, all of the yous."

Phil chuckled against the side of his neck then inhaled as if taking some of Terry inside of him. "I love all of the yous too."

Trigger warning: the title refers to a consensual rape scene between a master and his sub!

Well, wasn't this a nice little find. Of course, the premise was more than a little silly: three years ago, Phil abruptly left Terry because of a job. He basically dumped him without a proper explanation or good-bye. Now, Phil is back and tries to rekindle things with Terry. They agree to go out for lunch, where Phil confesses to Terry that during his absence he discovered that he's a Dom and into the BDSM lifestyle. And while Terry had never wasted much thought on BDSM at all, he immediately jumps head first into the role of Phil's sub only a few hours later. Um, sure. Ok. Whatevs.

But once I accepted that premise (or better: once I've put on my pink glasses) and decided to just roll with the story, it turned out to be actually really good.

The writing was more than just a little decent, it was actually surprisingly good and fresh. That and the author did a really nice job explaining the BDSM 101 basics.

The final chapter, which culminates in the title's role play scene, was really well explained and executed. While Terry's dark rape fantasy didn't bother me (probably because I saw how much effort Phil has put into it to make it satisfying for both Terry AND himself), it might still be a little too much for some readers, maybe even upsetting. So mind my trigger warning!

I recommend this book to people who never read a BDSM story before and want to dip their toes into this genre. You'll be rewarded with two flawed, but likable MCs, a respectful D/s relationship, and a second chance story with a lot of love. Oh, and did I mention that it was also HAWT?

Review: "Dirty Dining" by EM Lynley
Dirty Dining - E.M. Lynley

“Jeremy, when I first met you, you filled a void in my life—a physical need—in a fun and exciting way. But the more I spend time with you, especially like last night, where I can talk to you and get to know you, the more I realize you fill up the emptiness in my heart too.”

DINNER IS SERVED!

I usually don't like books where one or both MCs work in the sex industry. Call me a prude, but I like to keep them in my porn, not in my romances. (On second thought, please don't call me a prude!)

But I really, really liked the concept of the Dinner Club here. There were very strict rules to be followed and the boys were in charge, so nothing happened that wasn't 100% consensual. Nothing felt cheap or exploitative, but instead the whole setting was very classy and everyone was just supposed to have fun and a good time.

EM Lynley came up with a fascinating concept, and I wonder if places like this actually exist. If they do, then please let me know. For research purposes only, obviously.

The atmosphere during the actual dinner scenes was charged as hell, and you could cut the sexual chemistry between Remy and Brice with a knife from the very first time they laid eyes on each other. And later, when they decided to take their relationship outside of the club, that was when things went from "UNF!" to "Awww!". It was an interesting inversion of your typical relationship development.

I also liked the other boys at the club too, especially Kit. Can we have his and Sky Blue's story next, Ms. Lynley?

I think that I should also mention that I almost always HATE it when the MCs have on-page sex with other people who are not their love interest. Which happens here, but it was ok for me for two reasons: it happened before Remy and Brice became romantically involved with each other, and it was "just" a handjob and a blowjob, no penetration. Ok, ok, I admit it: that scene with Sky Blue was also sexy as fuck and smoking hot and so very, VERY depraved! So...

Remy's overreaction at one point bothered me a little, but the swoonworthy "An Officer and a Gentleman"-like ending totally made up for it.

I loved this book the first time I read it, and I still loved it during this reread.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Thanks to Julie & Nathan for the BR!

Review: "Will & Patrick Meet the Mob" (Wake Up Married, #5) by Leta Blake & Alice Griffiths
Will & Patrick Meet the Mob (Wake Up Married Book 5) - Alice Griffiths,Leta Blake

I'm not sure if I have made myself clear enough, so let me say it again:

I just love this series and I love Will and Patrick! LOVE THEM!

In all honesty I would read a hundred more books that was just them coming to terms with their feelings and love for each other. They're just so perfect and the sex is HAWT.

I will be so sad when this fun and emotional journey with Will and Patrick is over...

Review: "Will & Patrick Fight Their Feelings" (Wake Up Married, #4) by Leta Blake & Alice Griffiths
Will & Patrick Fight Their Feelings (Wake Up Married Book 4) - Alice Griffiths,Leta Blake

I am still head over heels in love with Patrick, my sexy HottieMcBrainSurgeon.

I mean, how can you NOT love someone who finds out that he's fallen in love with his fake husband, but is afraid that Will doesn't return his feelings, so the only way he can express his love is by confessing it to his best friend, who is just waking up from surgery and unable to understand anything that he's saying?

“You’re a Libra. What do Libras think about love?” he asks. Then he puts his thumb to her bottom lip and moves it up and down, pitching his voice up high. “What’s the problem, Dr. Jerkface? Love is beautiful. You should be happy. Have my jam doughnut.”

“Only idiots think love is beautiful,” Patrick says in his own voice.

“I’m not an idiot. I’m an optimist.” Her lip is soft but dry under his thumb and she frowns in her sleep.

This was also the hottest episode so far. And by hot I mean kinky. I am not so sure how I feel about the addition of the BDSM elements though, like breath play or spanking. I mean, they were nicely written and explained and the sex was hot, but somehow it felt out of place in this story and Will & Patrick's relationship. But if the authors thought that it needed to be included, then that's ok. Even if it didn't totally work for me.
