I'm developing an obsession with standup comedy! (I blame the audible channel: "Front Row Comedy")

There are some naturals like Caleb Synan. Laugh away!!

Standup Guy: A Stone Barrington Novel - Stuart Woods

As with most recent Stone Barrington novels, this one reads like your basic, average way over the top soap opera.  I still enjoy reading these books because they are easy to read and provide basic escapism from the trials and tribulations of everyday life.  Stone helps an ex-con get away with several millions dollars and ends up getting questioned by several parties including the Secret Service as to the whereabouts of both.  Along the way a thug also interested in the money kidnaps Stone's latest tryst and demands large amounts of money for her return.  I will keep reading these books because I just want to see where Woods takes Stone's character in the future, but the events that occur in these novels can occur on a Hollywood back studio lot, if you get my meaning.  I've said it before and I will say it again: Stone Barrington novels make for great beach and beer books, and that's not so bad, is it?

Seriously... I'm Kidding - Ellen DeGeneres

I'm going to be forthright with you guys. I was disappointed in Seriously...I'm Kidding (which is a strange statement to make considering that title). I guess I was expecting more comedic memoir and less relentless stand-up in book format. I did say in my last post that I thought that was the premise but I was still hoping for more. Now this isn't Ellen's first book. It's actually her third and so I'm wondering if perhaps the other two captured more what I was looking for from her. That isn't to say that there weren't funny parts. It's Ellen for goodness sake! This is just to say that I was looking for something else and this wasn't it. If you're looking for a quick read that is light and easy then I would recommend this to you (especially if you enjoy Ellen's sense of humor). If you're looking for a comedic memoir I encourage you to look elsewhere.

Standup Guy
Standup Guy - Stuart Woods The Stand UP Guy by Stuart Woods
My first book from this author and I'm enjoying it. A man has gotten out of prison after he's served his 25 year sentence for armed robbery. There were 5 in on it and there are only 2 others left. Some of them know where the money is and he's being shot at and gets help from the PI Stone.
He has many ideas for him and follows them to start a new life and lay low.
The president is also trying to help his wife become president and they are a friend of Stone..
Very detailed plots, there are many as the players come together to get back what is theirs. Didn't care for the ending and have a feeling I'll be meeting up with these characters in another book...
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
