They Came to Baghdad - Agatha Christie

I'm sorry for all the reading updates, but I'm having a blast with this book, which is just brilliant as my day has been rather crap (a funeral followed by work stupidity...).

So, how about this one?

‘I’m joining my uncle out there. Dr Pauncefoot Jones,’ she explained.

‘Indeed? The archaeologist?’

I just keep breaking out in bouts of laughter. I mean, how can you not think of all the famous archaeologists called Dr. Jones?

Under a Dark Summer Sky - Vanessa Lafaye

WFLA Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve introduces British novelist Vanessa Lafaye's newest book "Under a Dark Summer Sky" on the 80th Anniversary of the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane that hit Florida's Middle Keys.

By: Vanessa Lafaye

ISBN: 9781492612506

Publisher: SOURCEBOOKS Landmark

Publication Date:  6/9/2015

Format:  Other

My Rating:  5 Stars +

Horrifying and beautiful, Under a Dark Summer Sky is a fictionalized account of one of the most devastating natural disasters in US history.

Florida Keys, 1935. Hurricane Season.

Tens of thousands of black and white men scarred by their experiences of war in Europe return home to find themselves abandoned to destitution by the US government.

The tiny, segregated community of Heron Key is suddenly overwhelmed by broken, disturbed men with new ideas about racial equality and nothing left to lose.

Tensions flare when a black veteran is accused of committing the most heinous crime of all against a white resident’s wife. And not far off the strongest and most intense hurricane America has ever witnessed is gaining force.

For fans of The Help and To Kill a Mockingbird, this is the story of the greatest tragedy you've never heard of.

This Summer - Katlyn Duncan

Before college, before responsibilities, Hadley Beauman and best friend Lily are determined to have a summer to remember. There will be all the usual dramas - ex-boyfriends who don't seem to know what 'ex' means, pesky younger brothers with unrequited crushes, but what Hadley didn't anticipate was the out-of-the-blue return of the seriously hot boy-next-door, Will Carson. The boy who broke her heart when he skipped town two years ago.

Will may have shot up a foot and filled out (oh yes), but inside he carries the weight of guilt - for leaving, for coming back... Now he's just passing through to tie up loose ends but it's clear the old chemistry still crackles between him and Hadley. Trouble is, it's built on two years of lies...

This summer might just be the best time of their lives, but is Hadley ready for everything to change - again?

In honor of Jim's would be 71st birthday today, I bring you my favorite song by the Doors..Indian Summer.

Indian Summer was actually one of the first songs the Doors ever recorded (in some interviews it is said the be the first, in others it is Moonlight Drive), done in August of 1966 when they recorded their self titled album, though it didn't actually show up until 1970 on their Morrison Hotel LP.

It's actually kind of against the grain for me that this song ends up being my favorite one.  There is just something so rock n roll about it.  I love you the best, better than all the rest.  So short and simple... none of the heavy keyboard play, none of Jim's typical off the wall lyrics and crazy performances.  It's just a to the point Jim-style love song that he puts so much emotion in, that it just blows my mind every time I hear it.
