Review: Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles #2) by Ilona Andrews
Sweep in Peace - Ilona Andrews

Dina DeMille isn't your typical Bed and Breakfast owner. Her inn defies laws of physics, her dog is secretly a monster, and the only permanent guest of the inn is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. The inn needs guests to thrive and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina's door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance. Unfortunately, for Dina, bridging the gap between space vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. To make the summit a success, she must find a chef, remodel the inn, keep her guests from murdering each other, and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it's all in the day's work for an Innkeeper.

It has been a while since I read Clean Sweep and I maybe should have reread it or at the very least a summary of it lol. I was a bit lost in the beginning but most came back quickly.

I really liked Dina before but this book just made me love her so much more. She was faced with some tough decisions and managed them all so good. She really became into her own as an innkeeper this book.

I liked that things didn’t go perfect at first for her all the time and she learned along the way.

I also enjoyed the magic system in this world and just the world building in general,  I wasn’t too sure when I started this series but I really am enjoying it all now.

This book also was a bit of a tearjerker and emotional as we follow her a long but still had plenty of humor to balance it out a bit.

Overall, I enjoyed it and looking very much forward to next book.

I rate it 4 ★

Innkeeper Chronicles series
Clean Sweep - Ilona Andrews
Sweep in Peace - Ilona Andrews
One Fell Sweep - Ilona Andrews

March 2019 Re-Read

When life is getting me down, I turn to Ilona Andrews.  I powered through the Hidden Legacy series and still needed an infusion of light-hearted fun and fantasy.  Enter the Innkeeper Chronicles.  I debated long and hard before I sank my cash into these volumes, but I’m so glad that I did.  There’s nothing like Dina, Caldenia, Sean, and Arland to make me smile and feel better.  I am so relating to Dina missing her parents right now—my mother’s last sibling passed away at the end of January and I am missing her, my parents and all the other aunts & uncles.  Spending time in Red Deer, Texas, helps me feel a little less lonely.

So yes, I’m avoiding life right now and re-reading old favourites.  I’m not sure when this tendency will end, but I’m enjoying my vacation from reality.

Snakes & Ladders update
Diamond Fire - Ilona Andrews
Clean Sweep - Ilona Andrews
Sweep in Peace - Ilona Andrews
One Fell Sweep - Ilona Andrews
Kill the Queen - Jennifer Estep

This time around, I begin on square 30.  There are no trains in Diamond Fire, so I get to shake one die. Result: 5.  Move on to square 35.  Clean Sweep hasn't been adapted as a movie, so another shake of one die.  Result: 2.  Square 37, and as far as I know, Sweep in Peace hasn't won any awards, so another 1 die shake.  Result: 5, moving to square 42.  No characters involved in a sport or sports industry in One Fell Sweep, so another one die shake.  Result: 6.  Move to square 48. A book you acquired in February 2019.  I can't do that either, so I'll use Kill the Queen for another shake of one die: 5.

Ending up on square 53.  The cue: has something that can be used as a weapon on the cover.  My copy of Snow Crash actually has a sword on the cover.  I'll let that be one of my incentives to get reading on that book!

On we go, my friends.

Sweep in Peace by Ilona Adrews Review
Sweep in Peace - Ilona Andrews

Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews Elaine Howlin Book Blog Review

Sweep in Peace picks up 6 months after the events of Clean Sweep and life has returned to normal for Dina....but not for long ;) Her Inn is set to host the volatile peace talks between three warring species. Her livelihood hinges on the outcome and she ends up being pushed into a precarious position to protect her guests.

This book features 4 characters as adults who were kids in The Edge series. It isn't necessary to read The Edge books before this one but you should anyway cause those books are great!

Andrews manage to blend urban fantasy and science fiction so well with this series. Magic and technology don't usually go together but it's something they make work. Here they've blended the two genres without ever having one take over or feel out of place.

The story doesn't follow the Whodunit style that's very often in urban fantasy books. Instead, we're following the peace talks and the very tricksy Arbitrator wreak havoc in Dina's Inn. It made for much more interesting reading within my favourite genre and I gobbled it up!

Favourite Quote: "This is blasphemy!” Odalon declared in the same way Gerard Butler had once roared “This is Sparta.” Sadly, Odalon had nobody to kick into a bottomless hole for emphasis, so he settled for looking extremely put out.”
