Sword Of Destiny
Sword of Destiny - Andrzej Sapkowski

I was expecting much of The Witcher. It's the one series my sister has been telling me for years to read. And with the recent Netflix series (that I still need to watch, possibly during the social distancing of COVID-19), it was finally time to give it a try.

So, Sword of Destiny, like it predecessor The Last Witch are prequel short story collections that tie in some of the questions I'm sure people would have had about the characters in the main series. While I like short stories from time to time, I felt like it was time for me to read a full Witcher book, rather than more short stories.

So, I'm reading the series in chronological order, but haven't decided yet if that is what works best. Either way, while I liked the stories I would have liked to see some more character development. I am still having this sort of strange feeling where I feel like I am reading a book based on a game, rather than the other way around.

Next book is full length, fingers crossed!

Wisher Geralt's destiny
Sword of Destiny (The Witcher) - Andrzej Sapkowski

Adventures continue with Geralt  fighting monsters and falling in love, and finding destiny.

The witcher does not live in conventional manner and normal norm do not apply to him. But he does fall for a sorceress Yen. And there is a love triangle. What fun! Could a woman loves two men and with both men accepting that as it is. After all, many women got involved with married man with the wife knowing that the man has a mistress and the relationship still survive.

How about the law is surprise? The destiny give Geralt a child but the child's grandmother would not want to separate from the child and worry about her. Geralt taken upon himself to fight destiny. But in the story land, destiny is a strong force.

Very entertaining stories. Fans from the game and the TV series would enjoy this one.

Taking a pass on this series...
By Jean Johnson The Sword (The Sons of Destiny, Book 1) (Reprint) [Mass Market Paperback] - Jean Johnson

I decided to give the Sons of Destiny series a try, after having enjoyed Jean Johnson's Shifting Plains books.  But the solid world building of Shifting Plains was missing, and the lecturing was worse than the overdone cheese-making of The Shifter.

I must say that this was a disappointment and that, though I completed the book, I did not like the characters or the storyline.  The one world building item that was of interest was the description of the "refreshing room," as this was included but never described in the other books I've read set in this universe, and the only fun-to-read part was the attack of the water-snake things and the "cure" scene that followed.  It was interesting to see a young Eduor from Finding Destiny, along with his father and brother, but he was almost a non-entity and his family were too close to being caricatures of Spanish explorers.

Though I generally like to finish a series once I start it, this is one that I will be stopping with the first book.  Even having read the synopsis of each of the sequels, there was nothing to compel my reading further.  I'm quite glad this was a library e-book and that I did not spend my money as well as my time to read it.

The Sword of Hope: Destiny Awaits
The Sword of Hope: Destiny Awaits - Christopher Bryant My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 unicorns - I really liked it!
**Book gifted to me by author for an honest review

Okay let’s start with the cover because that’s where we start with a book, right? I think is definitely leads you towards picking up the book. My son says it is neat and makes you think of adventure.

I originally set out reading this book with my son, but it is summer vacation, and my son would rather be outside with his friends. So he is still on chapter 7, but I went on and finished it because I was tired of waiting for him.

My son really likes this book so far, but chapter 7 has him confused. I’ll come back to this though.

The world that Christopher has created is really unique because it is a combination of modern technology mixed into this magical fantasy land. Christian and Tiberius are great characters that act like normal boys where one minute they are serious and the next they are laughing and doing silly boy things. There is all sorts of action with tests, battles, sword & axe play, magic creatures, and the overall battle against evil.

This is definitely a YA book; however, it is a bit advanced in language and descriptions for someone my son’s age. He is 12, and he is not the best reader because he mixes up letters and words confusing his understanding. I think the book is great because it’s wording is not simplistic so it is great for building vocabulary. It covers topics of hard work, overcoming fear & obstacles, and not to lose hope when things get difficult.

I definitely will continue reading the series, and the book will go to my classroom with me to share with my students in my classroom library.
