Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews
Savannah Blues - Mary Kay Andrews
SAVANNAH BLUES by Mary Kay Andrews
Okay, yes, it is chick lit. BUT, it is GOOD chick lit. Andrews is my favorite author for when I am mad at the world (don’t ask) and I need a picker-upper. She gives me a good story with interesting characters, some local touches, a lot of romance, a bit of “southern” and good writing with a few laughs on the way to getting the bad guy and having a happy ending.
Weezie, the wronged wife and soon to be divorcee, has been consigned to the “coach house” while hubby lives with wife number two in the “big house”. Best friend, Bebe, comes to the rescue when Weezie is caught standing over the bloody body of wife number two. Bebe brings along the hunky chef of the best restaurant in town who tries to help with interesting results (he must have a great staff because he is rarely at said restaurant).
Lots of fun and skullduggery, a bit of antiquing and home repair, along with many twists and turns in the romance department make this a great read for a quarantine summer.

Even Tree Nymphs Get the Blues
Even Tree Nymphs Get the Blues (Mystic Bayou Book 3) - Molly Harper

Mystic Bayou, Book 2.5

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Ingrid Asher:
Rob Aspern:
Bael, Jillian, Zed, Dani, Sonja

The Story:

Ingrid is our newest transplant to Mystic Bayou. In town to live without hiding and open her Ice Cream shop. Rob Aspen is a Mathematician brought to Mystic Bayou by the League to study the Rift. For Rob it was basically love at first sight. He literally couldn’t move as he watched Ingrid string Zed up with a tree. Watching Ingrid integrate into Mystic Bayou was fun. She and Rob trying to navigate into a relationship was good too. I’m glad Rob was able to find someone to love.

Ms Harper did not disappoint in the Zed/Bael department. And girls night brought about many giggles. *insert toothy grin here*

The Stainless Steel Rat Sings the Blues / Harry Harrison
The Stainless Steel Rat Sings the Blues - Harry Harrison

The 25th century's most outrageous outlaw is back. When a heist goes terribly wrong, Slippery Jim DiGriz, thief, conman, is allowed to cut a deal with the Galactic League. In return for his life, he must rerieve an alien artifact from a crazed prison planet.

I’m glad that it has been a while since I last read a Stainless Steel Rat book. They are best consumed with considerable space between them, otherwise the sameness of the adventures and the humour becomes a drag.

But there are a few treats in store in each book. In this one, Slippery Jim must visit a prison planet to find a stolen archeological artifact, undercover as part of a band. Their first encounter with unwashed nomads sends up organized religion. Next, they encounter a society where men and women live separately, a comic rewrite of Sheri Tepper’s The Gate to Women's Country. Most of the men don’t even know that women exist, giving Harrison the chance to thumb his nose at the whole Iron John: A Book About Men concept and the men’s movement.

These are short and that’s a good thing. Especially as I have two more of them on the horizon for 2020!

Book number 341 in my Science Fiction and Fantasy Reading Project.

 That was odd.
The Face Value Blues - Mark Power-Freeman

It took off into an entirely different direction than I was expecting.  It seemed to be trying to morph into a romance.  Or maybe  the author was trying to show how the MC had grown.

Succubus Blues - Richelle Mead

Georgina Kincaid, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Paranormal Love Crew monthly read

The Characters:

Georgina Kincaid:
Sahil Roy:
Roman, Seth, other friends

The Story:

I can not pinpoint a specific reason I can not get into this book. What I do know is I put it down after almost two months and haven’t picked it up in almost another month. I like Georgina and I have my suspicions about what is going on but I can’t make myself read and find out more. :-(
