Reading progress update: I've read 95%.
The Travelling Cat Chronicles - Hiro Ari... The Travelling Cat Chronicles - Hiro Arikawa

This has been one of the loveliest books I've read all year. The relationship between Satoru and his cat, Nana, is so heartwarming, even though the novel itself has become unbearably sad.

Some people really shouldn't become parents. There's no absolute guarantee when it comes to the love between a parent and their child

I'd heard great things about this book, read the sample and decided to give it a try. It's a Japanese novel about a cat called Nana, who narrates part of the novel. He was rescued by Satoru, who decides to take him on a road trip to visit some of his childhood friends.

The novel's quite different from what I imagined, but in a good way. I thought it'd be a light read about the antics of a cat, but instead it's in equal parts endearing and heartbreaking as relationships from Satoru's past are unravelled.
