The year is 2069. Sixteen-year-old Derry and her brother live in perpetual fear of capture. They survive underground on a post-apocalyptic earth overrun by gangs and clones, and hunted overhead by mysterious hoverships. When her brother goes missing, Derry’s only hope of finding him is to strike a deal with a group of cutthroat subversives. Desperate to save her only sibling, she leads a daring raid to uncover the secrets behind the Sweepers’ hoverships, but she soon finds out the world she knows is a lie.

So it wasn't bad, it wasn't great. I felt like I read it before but most YA dystopian books are nearly interchangeable these days.

Cut and paste most of the basics change a few minor details and you basically have the same story with the same character traits and plot lines.

I think Immurement stands a better chance with someone who isn't burned out on these kind of reads.

But as for me I think I might have gotten a little too much of the YA teen angst love angle involving a young heroine who is supposed to be a lot braver and stronger than she actually is who is willing to sacrifice what should be important for a more than obvious compulsive obsession with a boy.

Until next time book lovers...

Judgement: The Undergrounders Series Book Three (A Young Adult Post-apocalyptic Science Fiction Thriller)
Judgement: The Undergrounders Series Book Three (A Young Adult Post-apocalyptic Science Fiction Thriller) - Norma Hinkens In Judgement Derry and her friends are back and have finally saved everyone from the Sweepers. They have put Craniopolis out of operation and have stopped the Sweepers from extracting people. They are now all living happily and safe in Shoshane City with the riders, the Undergrounders, the clones and everyone else. Well they believe they are safe until they intercept a message that was meant for Craniopolis. They find out that Craniopolis is not the only place that is creating clones. They learn that they may be other places out there like Craniopolis that is experimenting on people. Derry is now very determined to stop the other outposts before they learn that Craniopolis has been put out of commission and they send more Sweepers their way.

While Derry is getting everyone ready for battle she has a lot more problems on the home front that has her upset but there isn’t much she can do about it but just let it be for the moment. Not only does she have to worry about the Sweepers but she also has to deal with the rogues as well. She thought that maybe she and the rogues were even but she soon learns that with rogues that is not the case. Most of them are only out for number one and will kill if that is what it takes to be number one but they are also some good folks that are rogues and they are also some that just like to play fair. The latter may be just what has saved Derry’s butt on occasion.

Is Derry ready for another fight? Are her and her friends capable of fighting so close on the tail end of their last fight with the Sweepers? Well if they want to live then they had better be. Because once they arrive the sweeping will start all up again if they can’t stop them for good this time or so they hope.

The Sweepers won’t know what has hit them when they meet up with Derry for the first time. Derry is a very strong and willed person for someone so young. She is also a very smart person. But she was taught by the best, Big Ed, an Undergrounder like herself. Yeah ole’ Big Ed finds a campion and maybe a little love like Derry and Sven, Owen and Nikki and like some others too. Yeah even clones can fall in love.

I have really and truly loved following Derry, Jerome, Rummy, Sven, Owen, The Ghost and others on their journeys to stop the Sweepers. I have enjoyed learning of their lives as Undergrounders and the traveled along with them on their stay in the city of Shoshane. I love the world that the Norma Hinkens has created for The Undergrounders. It is unlike anything I have read before. I would definitely recommend The Undergrounders Series to anyone who loves a good story. It will leave you wanting more. I would suggest that you start with the first book in the series Immurement and then go on to the next one Embattlement and then Judgement. Yeah you would need to read them in order so that you will know what is going and you want be confused about anything. The Undergrounders is one of those series you would like to see on the big screen.

Immurement
Immurement: A Young Adult Science Fiction Dystopian Novel (The Undergrounders Series Book One) - Norma Hinkens

I think I've reached the point where I should take a break from the Dystopian future. This is the newest reading experience in a growing string of books from the genre that I didn't like. I think I might have saturated my need for Dystopian stories for a while. At least for the ones that don't seem to make a lot of sense.

Derry and her family and friends live in underground bunkers out of fear for the Sweepers who abduct people into aircrafts. The description is not unlike alien abduction. When her brother is taken, Derry will do everything she can to rescue him, at least until the love interest shows up. A girl and her priorities, I guess?

There are certain things that could have saved the novel, but unfortunately didn't. One of which was Derry's character. She was rather annoying, and the easy way in which she seems to forget her goals doesn't speak for her either. She's supposed to be the kick-ass heroine familiar to the genre, but instead she usually gets into trouble and needs to be rescued by a group of strong men. Also, I was quite disappointed with the reveal about the Sweepers. It didn't make a lot of sense to me, but to be completely honest, I was past really caring at that point.

Immurement is the first book of the Undergrounders.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Embattlement: The Undergrounders Series Book Two (A Young Adult Science Fiction Dystopian Novel)
Embattlement: The Undergrounders Series Book Two (A Young Adult Science Fiction Dystopian Novel) - Norma Hinkens As we delve back into the lives of Derry, Sven, Trout and Jakob in Embattlement we pick up where Immurement left off. When we left them last time Derry had to leave her brother Owen behind at Craniopolis she thought he was not going to make it and so did he. He sacrificed himself to save Derry and everyone else. But now they are rumors going around that Owen may still be alive and as long as there is a chance that he is alive; Derry will do whatever it takes to save him and bring him home. Beside someone has to stop the Sweepers from extracting everyone and using them in their experiments.

Derry knows that she and the Undergrounders can’t go up against the Sweepers all by their selves. They will need help so the only choice she has is to team up with their enemies the rogues. So Derry sets out to find them and enlist their help. When she finds them she knows they need even more so they set out for Shoshane City to find more help.

Upon reaching Shoshane City with help of some riders Derry realizes right away that the leader of Shoshane City Jerome has a lot of secrets and she is determined to find out what they are if she is ever going to trust him. But can she ever trust anyone again. Will she discover what Jerome is hiding? Will she ever be able to trust him? Can she trust him long enough to save her brother? Does she really have a choice at this point?

On her quest to save her brother and anyone else at Craniopolis Derry and her friends run into more and more trouble. It seems to follow her around for some odd reason. She runs into some more bad people along the way but there is a mysterious person among the bad guys that has been helping people escape from all their attacks upon the Undergrounders. Who is this mysterious creature and why is he saving them? What is his purpose? What is in it for him or her in saving them?

I love the world that the author has created in Embattlement and all the character as well. Norma Hinkens has created a world full of characters that jumps out and fills you with warmth among lots of other feelings. I couldn’t get enough of it and when I wasn’t reading it I was definitely thinking about it. I can’t wait for book 3 Judgement. I can’t wait to find out what Derry has in plan for us next. What will she do? Has she really saved anyone as of yet? What does Judgement have in store for us? What is waiting on the horizon for Derry and all of her friends in Judgement?

If you haven’t read The Undergrounders then I highly recommend that you do it will blow you away. But I suggest that you check out the first book Immurement first and then go on to Embattlement so that you can understand more about what is going on.
