great little Victorian gem with a witty heroine, an awesome supporting cast and a cliffy that will make you run to book #2
These Vicious Masks - Kelly Zekas,Tarun Shanker

Let me start by saying that I LOVED this book and I am extremely confused as to why the ratings are on the low side. Not only was it paced expertly, written beautifully and the characters were crafted magnificently it was ultimately executed perfectly. That cliffhanger was admittedly a bit difficult to digest BUT it helped that the next in the series was already available. There is a love triangle of sorts but since the setting is Victorian with a very definite Historical Fiction vibe, the budding romances were extremely tame! The character development was so rich that you couldn't help but fall in love with the secondary and tertiary supporting characters as well as the very witty, non damsel in distress heroine. I loved Evelyn's snarky interactions with the very dashing and ever ready to please Mr. Kent and who could resist the master of brooding hunky Mr. Braddock? Who will she ultimately choose?!? This is a rapidly consumed, addictive guilty pleasure that will have you reaching for book #2, These Ruthless Deeds, in no time at all. Enjoy!!

These Vicious Masks Book Review
These Vicious Masks - Kelly Zekas,Tarun Shanker

While I enjoyed this book, I feel like its a bit forgettable. There's nothing necessarily new in it. But it is fun and set in the Victorian era with some enjoyable magic throughout the plot.

Everything changes when Rose goes missing. Evelyn, so used to society's expectations leaves home to go find her sister. Especially knowing of the special healing powers her sister possesses. What she didn't know? That she has powers of her own and that makes this chase all the more dangerous.

I liked Evelyn but she's nothing special. She lacks a bit f gusto and is as I said above easily forgettable. I'm hoping that she grows in the next book.

I was also a bit disappointed in the ending. After a big long search for her sister things felt a bit anti climatic. I'm interested enough to read the next one, who know's, I'm hoping its better than book one.

These Vicious Masks
These Vicious Masks - Kelly Zekas,Tarun Shanker I ran across this book the other day and just knew I was going to pick it up! First, because that cover is awesome, and second because it is billed as...

Jane Austen meets X-Men

So really, I had no choice but ti buy it!

This was a thoroughly delightful read! The plot was engaging and kept me interested. The characters, both main, and secondary were well written, and intriguing. Evelyn was funny, and feisty. Sebastian was broody, and mysterious. Nicholas was charming and also mysterious.

This book is set in 1882 London, and Rose, Evelyn's sister has gone missing. Evelyn leaves home and with the help of Mr. Kent (Nicolas) and Sebastian Braddock, she sets about trying to find out what happened to her. Of course during all this she discovers she and others around her have these secret supernatural powers.

Overall I really enjoyed this one. My only small complaint was the ending. I assume that there will be a book two, but I was hoping for more of a resolution with the romance, slight love triangle, plot but I have my fingers crossed I will get that closure in the next book (if there indeed is one)

Just read this is going to be a trilogy!!

These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker , Kelly Zekas
These Vicious Masks - Kelly Zekas,Tarun Shanker

It took me a bit to get over the last heartbreaking pages. Thankfully, there is no cliffhanger( your will emotions appreciate it) as your thrown into a fascinating world that you could only read in the comics with a historical twist.

When Evelyn sister Rose disappears, she leaves everything behind to search for her, with the help of Mr.Kent and the odd Sebastian Braddock with his fantastic tales of super-humans, and to top it off claims the sisters also have special gifts also. Everlyn dismisses this as crazy, only to be shown it's all true.

I adored Everlyn, with her humor and snarkness, she had a spine of steel and wouldn't give up in the face of alot of heartbreak, she's still fighting. Although I loved Everlyn, I didn't care for the supposed "love triangle" something that's a big turn off for me, but there again, this was more of adventure book, so even the romance was pretty thin of the ground.
I loved every bit of the book, with it's chase scenes, balls and people with amazing powers, I look forward to more from this series.
