Sweep With Me
Sweep with Me - Ilona Andrews

This was a novella and I wish that it had been fleshed out more to make it a longer story. I think that Dina's quickness of reconnecting with Gertrude Stein was way too fast considering how much of the story had her full of angst because she can tell that she and the inn were not synched up like they were before her sacrifice in "One Fell Sweep." I loved the story-line though with a whole new powerful entity out there. I hope we get to see the new characters introduced in this one again in future stories.

"Sweep With Me" takes place during the same time period of "Sweep of the Blade." Dina is still recovering with her sacrifice when she connected with a seed before it would become an inn. She also feels afraid that Sean, her boyfriend, and werewolf, may get hurt and she will be left alone again. I loved that we get to see a tradition of the inn's on Earth during "Treaty Day" where they have to allow anyone who wants to stay at the inn, to stay as a visitor. Due to this, Dina has agreed to host three special people/groups who may cause her trouble with the Assembly.

I loved that we get to see a new species in this one called the Drifen. They sound like superheroes or gods practically. I would love a new spin-off focusing on them and the leader that we get to meet in this one who had shades of Kate Daniels, though sadder somehow.

We also get Dina and Sean hosting galactic chickens. I maybe died at the illustration that was included.

And lastly we have Dina and Sean hosting a Medamoth. Sean's adventure with the Medamoth and Orro was the freaking best and I laughed for a long time. I wouldn't mind a POV.

I definitely cannot wait for a longer novel.

DNF The Wicked Vampire
The Wicked Vampire (Last True Vampire series) - Kate Baxter

It’s bern nearly two months since I last picked this book up and current have no desire to finish it. While there are some deliciously steamy sex scenes the plot seems repetitive in the I love you but I hate you theme. It’s not badly written or anything it’s just not doing anything for me personally right now.

Thank you Netgalley and St Martin’s Press for the review copy.

Gentlemen Prefer Voodoo
Gentlemen Prefer Voodoo (Urban Fantasy Romance) - Angie Fox
Amie is a voodoo practitioner who also owns a voodoo shop. Her mom loved the wrong guys and Amie is adamant she isn't going to make the same mistakes. She breaks down and casts a spell for her to find her "one true love." That spell awakens Dante, who it turns out worked some magic of his own to be able to come back and find his "one true love."
This was short and sweet. Amie takes some convincing. I thought this worked well as a stand alone.

The Undead Walk Among US in Cloak of Deceit by Gwen Mitchell @Gwen_Mitchell
Cloak of Deceit: An Urban Fantasy Romance (Alex Moore Book 1) - Gwen Mitchell

I received Cloak of Deceit from Gwen Mitchell some time ago and it got lost in the review pile. This year, I aim to catch up on every review owed, regardless of how long it has been.

Cloak of Deceit (Alex Moore, #1)

Goodreads  /  Amazon

MY REVIEW

Alex Moore is a college senior and her whole life had been planned out. Until now.

Her boyfriend broke the rules of the vampire society when he created her and now she is not only a vampire, she is a psychic and has telekinetic powers.  The voices inside her head are the hive, a group of psychics called Gregori. But she is more than that.

She is an impossibility. She is a Gregori, a sworn enemy of the Undead, even though she is one of the Undead also.

I went through the painful, horrifying transformation with her. I heard the voices calling. I ran with her, though it was only in our minds.

Whether she was a violation of the law or a walking bull’s eye, it didn’t matter. Either way she was in deep danger. They all want her dead.

There would be no escape. Without Julian, a Knight of the Cloak, a sexy Undead enforcer, she didn’t stand a chance. Would he stand beside her?

When she talked of drinking the blood and the thickness coating her throat, it almost made me gag.

Tomato juice + cow’s blood = newbie cocktail

I enjoyed this vampire romance novel. Gwen Mitchell did an excellent job with descriptions and details of the fights and emotions of the characters. I loved and hated them and what more can I ask for.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Cloak of Deceit by Gwen Mitchell.

Book Review: Of Flame and Fate
Of Flame and Fate: A Weird Girls Novel (Weird Girls Flame Book 2) - Cecy Robson

*I offered to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Taran will do all she can to make sure her sister, Celia, and her baby will be safe. Even tracking down powerful relics at her own harm. Gemini, Taran's mate, is upset because she goes off without telling him. Though, she knows he would do all he can to stop her from what she feels she must do - protect her sister and baby.

Things are getting tense in the Alliance. Each group had a powerful leader attacked. Some group is acting to take out the powerful in order to get to Celia and her baby. The baby destined to do great things. All are assigned to protect the leaders, leaving Taran to protect Destiny. Destiny has fun plans for them, but when they go to a concert of rock star Johnny Fate things take a turn no one ever saw coming.

This beginning was a grabber! Wow, that's a way to start a book. And this scene is totally a Taran moment. lol. I loved it!

Taran is one of the most amusing characters to follow. Her colorful phrases and comparisons make me wonder what she'll say or think next. I love reading them. She makes me smile with each unique phrasing. Taran is a fighter. Dang girl. She may not fist fight in her pink heels but she won't stop going on and she'll fight if she has to. She's strong in her personality and determination.

Taran does what Taran does best...blow stuff up. Taran's arm... Yep. If you've read the previous books, you know her arm is rather special. Even seems to have a mind of it's own. But there is more to it. Totally awesome. I love how Taran has her own major spot in the way things will go in the future. These Wird girls are rather special, you can't deny that.

I get some view of Em here through Taran's interactions with her. This is interesting. I had questions regarding her at the end of Celia's last book. I'm glad to get some outsider view of Em and her interactions with others. I still have questions, but I feel like I'm getting pieces I am wanting.

As a whole the story gives us more tidbits on Taran and her sisters impact in the future. There's even talk of the girls children. Yes, girls, plural. This leaves us knowing there are more books to come to get to those moments. Also, the new enemy is known. So we'll have to deal with them as well.

Oh Cecy. You had me smiling with these crazy characters. And you had me tearing up. I should know by now that when I read one of these books, I'll feel an array of emotions with the characters. I love it!

Another entertaining installment to the Weird Sisters world full of action, determination, and love.
