I'm throwing in the towel on this one and marking it dnf.  It wasn't what I was expecting it to be and the letters I've read so far lean more towards speculative writing, which just isn't my thing.

 

I'll hang on to it for awhile and see if maybe I'll be in a better frame of mind to try again later on, but for now, I need it off my "Currently Reading" shelf; it's causing me anxiety seeing it squatting there when I have no immediate intention of reading it.

Like Jane Austen?  Check.
Absolutely love quotes from books?  Check.
Totally love really awesome author names?  Check.
(Those are the three reasons I decided to read this book *shrugs* At least I'm honest :D)

This is a book chock-full of great quotes from Jane Austen books, organized so that you can easily find something to work for you.  It was a lot of fun to read - made me laugh, cry, and definitely reminded me why I loved these books so much.

Funny, honest, practical and to the point. It was very relatable to me as a fellow IBS sufferer. I enjoyed following her on her journey of discovering different religions and how they helped her change her diet. I especially liked the insights that Buddhism provided about thinking where your food came from and all the plants and animals that sacrificed their lives so I can eat. I was worried that since this was non-fiction, she would go on and on about this and that research but instead I was pleasantly surprised by a very honest and funny journey to find relief to her constipation. I laughed out loud when she talks about going on a vegan diet and after a while felt like the lion on Madagascar and just wanted to chew on a zebra's butt. Half of the book is recipes and I'm excited to try them all.

This is such a beautiful book and would make not only a lovely treat for oneself, but is perfect for gift giving. "Amish Proverbs" is filled with gorgeous photograph of Amish life, all respectfully done. The pages are full of information about their beliefs and focuses on such topics as: time, money, faith, family and children, work ethic, education, words and deeds, adversity, community, character and just fun. Each section focuses on a specific topic, with a story and and then a deeper look at the beliefs and practices that surrounds that topic, followed by many wonderful Amish proverbs.

This book has made my favorites list - not only for its beauty, but for its inspirational content. I leave this book on the coffee table so that it is available to browse at any time. It has also become a topic of conversation with others when they stop by. I don't think there has been anyone that has been able to resist not only looking at the photos, but reading some of the proverbs and loving it.
