“Father," said Doon as they hurried along, "the mayor is a fool, don't you think?" For a moment his father didn't answer. Then he said, "He's in a tough spot, son. What would you have him do?" "Not lie, at least," Doon said. "If he really has a solution, he should have told us. He shouldn't preten...

I am having a hard time figuring out what to say about The City of Ember. I enjoyed the book. I liked the main characters, and I liked the supporting characters. I liked the dystopian aspects and the mystery aspects of the story, although Lina and Doon's efforts to decipher the message written on...

{February 2nd, 2015} MINI-REVIEW2.5 stars.“The day had a strange but comforting feel to it, like a rest between the end of one time and the beginning of another.”Considering I've seen the movie in bits and pieces, I could remember the scenes as I read through the book. There are differences between ...

28/12 - I had a whole plan of what I was going to read, and when, going into the new year, but this has thrown a wrench into those plans. That said, I am nowhere near the target audience and I thought it was a wonderful book. I would recommend it to...

I really love this story... If anyone has seen the film and is thinking of reading the book, the book is FAR better.Although the film has it's merits (the plot is very much the same as the book), the film is severely limited in it's connection with the characters.Instead, the book provides the reade...

It's a fun, quick read that I'm sure my son will enjoy, if only I can get him to stop re-reading his Harry Potter books long enough to try it. I definitely want to know what else happens.

A terrific book, simply and beautifully written. I like books that make it clear there is (or could be, or should be) a sequel in the works, but don't drive the reader out of her mind by not answering *any* of the questions raised at the very beginning. (I'm sure it's not just YA books that often do...
