I liked this story. It was very simply written (it is for children after all), had good characters and proved to be a nice interesting tale with a sound and clever ending.I'd recommend this book. Devlin

The City of Ember is a dystopian YA story about a city build underground and illuminated by thousands of neon lights that illuminate the entire city in amber. I read this with my 10 year old daughter for her Battle of the Books challenge at school. She thought it was pretty good. I didn't think it was terrible. The charachters weren't that great, but overall it wasn't bad. A typical end of days storyline... I had fun reading it with my daughter. It ...

It's an interesting and good-for-kids dystopia, but it doesn't quite pack a punch in any way. The characters are relatively flat and the story only shaded with the bro...

I've never read the sequels however as the way in which this book ended was left o...

The book is better than the movie. And I liked the movie. But having read the book, I can see how they totally gunked it up with unnecessary stuff. The end of the book is *totally* filled with wonder, and I think you miss some of that loveliness in the adaptation. Totally worth reading. I'm on to Bo...

I am sort of a late-comer with Young Adult novels. I blame it on my age. When I was a teenager in the 60s there was no real level between children and adult literature. Teen literature was a bit of a no man's land. I didn't realize there might actually be real literature in YA until I read the Harry...
