The first collection of poetry and other short pieces of writing by the remarkable John Boyle O'Reilly since his death in 1890. O'Reilly, apprenticed to the Drogetha Argus at age 11 and later the Preston Guardian, became a soldier with the Tenth Hussars and was eventually sentenced to death for belonging to the Fenian Irish Independence movement. Sent to Australia on a convict ship at age 22, he escaped to America and resumed his newspaper career at The Boston Pilot.
