Somewhat predictable (side-effect of aiming for middle grade?), but considering the fact that Nielsen has pretty much left herself wide open to obvious comparisons with Megan Whalen Turner's Queen's Thief, she still acquits herself very well.

Originally from here! The themes and tropes that Nielsen explores in “The False Prince” aren’t exactly new to the seasoned fantasy reader. Political maneuvering, double-crosses, and untrustworthy allies are standard fare in epic fantasy, and older readers will readily recognize these in “The False...

4.5 starsThe False Prince may not be the most revolutionary fantasy concept however what it does is execute its premise to perfection. Where the tendency for YA novels has been to patronise the reader Jennifer Nielsen's novel is instead a remarkably mature work of fiction that does not resort to com...

In a world not unlike ours, Sage is one of four boys captured by Conner and forced to take part in a competition to see which one of them will become the kingdom's missing prince.I enjoyed the story and the twist was good. I thought it was well done in the their series...and it is the same in this book. The reveal of the ...

Not too bad, but since I had been read The Queen's Thief before read this, there might be a lot of comparison between both of them. This book set in the country named Carthyan, where their king, queen and crown prince was murdered by poison. There was a noble called Conner, who gathered four boys tog...
