I'm a great fan of Chris Wooding's writing since reading Poison. That the story is set in a alternative Victorian time makes it even better.I only thought the characters to be a little flat; they could have been more interesting.

I was browsing the YA section of my local library and I stumbled across this book. Or maybe I should say that it called out to me. The blurry cathedral on the cover just promised to be dark and mysterious. I'm a sucker for dark, broody, creepy, gothic (etc) type stories, and this delivered just that...

I have to say that up until the last few chapters of this book, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.
