I am a little disappointed in this book overall, as I had high expectations after seeing some very good reviews. Also disappointing that I didn’t like this more because my library has several more audios of this author’s books on Overdrive. It started out well, at least, with a brutal murder occurri...

This was my first Chris Bohjalian book and I'm really glad I've been introduced to his writing. The Light in the Ruins is a fascinating mystery that plays out in Italy between 1955 - the time of the murder, and 1944 - the reason for it. He brings an incredible amount of detail to his historical fict...

The novel opens with the grisly murder of Francesca, the daughter-in-law of Marchese Rosati, in 1955. The murderer tells us he is targeting the entire Rosati family. The question is: Why? While the detectives work to solve the crime and protect the other family members, the author slowly reveals eve...

I was a bit disappointed in this book. I spent the whole book dying to know who was the killer and when I found out who it was at the end it felt like a letdown. I don't think it helped much that I didn't really like anyone in the Rosati family either. I was annoyed with how naive Cristina was, and ...

Chris just keeps working through all the genres (and then some) and taking the familiar genres of a historical mystery/murder novel and turn it on its head with such literary flair. That strange creature - a well written historical novel but reads like page-turning thriller.

The book opens in 1955 with the description of the brutal murder of a still good-looking, middle-aged woman, details of which, using italics, are related to the reader by the actual murderer, The story then backpedals to Tuscany, in 1943, to the Villa Chimera, the home of the Marchese and Marchesa,...
A Book Addict's Musings by Readinghearts
Chris Bohjalian pens another spectacular book with The Light in the Ruins. I have read several of Chris' books and have not found one yet that I didn't like. The story opens in 1955 with the murder of Francesca Rosati. Like Skeletons at the Feast, thought, his latest effort is primarily set set l...
