Very complex story with beautiful language. Something you definitely need to read several times to fully absorb.

I loved the use of color and opulence juxtaposed against disease and death, I loved the idea of a prince sequestering himself amid luxury and decadence while the poor die of a horrible pestilence in the streets. Read in preparation for Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin. Goodness was this creepy and genuinely frightened me! Definitely a great gothic horror, written by a genius!
When I first read this, I thought it was one of the coolest stories ever. I'd still put it in my top ten, I think.
