Bartimaeus the snarky, wise-cracking, self-aggrandising djinn is back for a...prequel! Set in the time of Solomon and tackling familiar issues of slavery and freedom and abuse of power, this book starts quite slowly and suffers the problem the original trilogy ran into; Bartimaeus is so bad-ass, coo...
As I progress through my "Unfinished Series" project for this year, I go back through my chronology of books read and catch up with the series from most recent to oldest. This means that the further into the list I go, the further back in time I'm going to revisit these series. In some cases, that...
Bartimaeus outdid himself this time. Very witty and so funny. I am having a hard time moving on from this one. Still blinking and looking around, surprised that I'm not personally speaking with Bartimaeus at this rate abd having a telling-off from him. This is proof that a novel, nay, a series, a goo...
I'm not sure if the book was a bit draggy, or if it was just me. It took me forever it feels like to finish, although the second half is pretty exciting and zippy, and I buzzed through that with no problems. I am fond of snarky Bartimaeus and his affection for young humans. And the digressive foot...

Not quite as awesome as the Bartimaeus trilogy proper, especially the last two books of that one, but great fun (with some gripping action) nevertheless. The beginning was a little slow, perhaps, but the rest of the books more than made up for it - besides, I rather enjoyed the beginning, too, slow ...
I hate when people write a trilogy and then randomly decide like five years later coughcoughEragoncough to make a fourth book and THEY STILL CALL IT A FUCKING TRILOGY. Aherm.
The Ring of Solomon was just as enjoyable as the other books in the Bartimaeus series; funny, thought-provoking, well written, great fantasy lit. I listened to this book on audiobook, which was narrated by Simon Jones, and he was a superb narrator. I highly recommend this book in that format.
I read the first Bartimaeus book awhile back and didn’t love it enough to keep reading the series. However, I’d heard good things about this prequel, and also it beat Conspiracy of Kings in the SLJ Battle of the Books, so I clearly needed to actually read it. I enjoyed it a lot, and I can see why Ri...
