Interesting read, but a little scary too. Lewis's forward to his book kinda sets it up nicely: it's a little uncomfortable that a book about demons is so popular.Since it is done in an epistolary format, it is quite easy to read 1-3 chapters and then put it away for several weeks (or even years) wit...

More fun and playful than I'd anticipated. As a platform upon which to discuss his beliefs and thoughts on theology, government, society and the nature of mankind in general, C.S. Lewis constructed The Screwtape Letters, an epistolary novel in the form of instructive letters from senior demon Screwt...

Good book, but really, parts of it are ridiculous. So science was inspired by the devil? Leading us away from the path? Slightly preachy, don't you think?Still... lots of interesting insights.

I loved this book! It's a collection of letters written by a senior demon (Uncle Screwtape) to his nephew, junior demon (Wormwood). Wormwood is assigned a young man to tempt and the letters turn into a kind of study on how spiritual warfare works. I've always heard that C.S. Lewis was a great Chris...

The version I bought included 'Screwtape Proposes a Toast', which I think is a fantastic read.

A hard book to give a star rating to. I would give it 4 stars for Lewis' rather dark humor and style, but only 2 stars for content. Split the difference and call it 3 stars.

I've very much enjoyed reading this book slowly. Each letter is worth study. Lewis is brilliant.

I didn't particularly care for this book. I'm not a religious person -I fall squarely into agnostic territory- and I have a hard time accepting the idea that my afterlife choices are A) to get into "Heaven" or B) to be the main course in "Hell". There were some funny parts, namely where Screwtape is...

SL is an interesting and disturbing book that reminds me to which lengths the devil will go, how much trickery he'll use to make me fall away from God. I believe Lewis has a point in this portrayal of how devils 'live' and that it's the 'invisible' sins that are the most dangerous for our salvation.

Sort of a highbrow Christian version of Fungus the Bogeyman. Give me the Briggs any day. It's funnier, better written and even more moral.
