Cute and entertaining, subtly and annoyingly misogynistic, and as entrenched in Christian-lore as ever. The friendships are well done, and the world built is beautiful. The animal companion steals trophy of best loved character yet again. I liked the over-all message of this one a lot better.
I'm doing a reread of the Chronicles of Narnia, and I started with The Silver Chair. It was better than I remembered. It's a solid adventure story, and I like Jill. I'm not a huge fan of Puddleglum, but I found him less annoying than the first time I read the book. A few more random thoughts abo...
Hello everyone and how's it going? I'm doing pretty well myself. As you can tell I have another Chronicle review which is "The Sliver Chair" So, here we go: The story follows Eustace once again along with his friend Jill. Together they go to Narnia where Eustace is needed. He and Jill are to rescu...
"Narnia . . . where giants wreak havoc . . . where evil weaves a spell . . . where enchantment rules. Through dangers untold and caverns deep and dark, a noble band of friends are sent to rescue a prince held captive. But their mission to Underland brings them face-to-face with an evil more beautifu...
Ah, the strange joys of Narnia! How is a middle-aged feminist nonbeliever supposed to feel about this contradictory volume?Pro: Jill Pole is a strong, active, fun, funny, vigorous girl that any reader, male or female, will be happy to have as a protagonist. Con: Jill's old enough to be active, but y...
I started the series with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, making this the fifth book I've read in the series, and so far it's my least favorite. I wasn't going to proceed with the series after the first book I read, because I found the blatant Christian Allegory annoying, but friends told me t...
After reading this book, I regret rating the previous three books of the series with 5 stars the previous three. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia when I was little. Though I hadn't read the books, I had watched numerous times the BBC Series -and yes, I believe it was better than the movies, despite ...
I really enjoyed The Silver Chair. I remember my enjoyment being increased when I saw a filmed version of it featuring my favourite Doctor (Tom Baker) as Puddleglum the Marsh-wiggle. I did enjoy seeing Eustace come into his own and thought the story was well thought-out and entertaining.
