Everything that is the beauty of summer is in this book.Everything I hope to be as a grandmother is in this book. Everything in this book is all sensitive moss and red spiders.

Delightful and dour all at the same time. So many things to like, especially the relationship between Sophia and her grandmother. One of the things I liked best though was the expansiveness of time and rest in the book. Everyone, even hard-working Papa, is slipping away to take a nap at various time...

Nothing sad "happens", quite, in The Summer Book, but now I feel like maybe I'll have a little weep. Maybe just because it's over.
