Somehow I managed to miss Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampire series, so I came to "The Veil" with no expectations other than it had been recommended by Faith Hunter, who writes the Jane Yellowrock and Soulwood series."The Veil" makes a promising start to Chloe Neill's new "Devil's Isle" series. The p...

The otherworld invaded and brought magic which triggered some people and this has caused issues, humanity fought back and won the battle but the war isn't over. Claire Connolly is going to be at the forefront.

I'm just going to be upfront and honest.... I had some issues with this book. The Veil could have been great, better than great even, but somehow got lost between the idea of this book and the finish product. I'm not really sure what it is that wen't wrong, though I suspect the characters are partia...

Felt a little slow, lots of scene-building and history lessons that came off as filler-trying-really-hard-not-to-be-filler. Not much time was spent in Devil's Isle considering the series is named after it. A little more wrap-up would have been nice, too. Otherwise, I had a good time with this story ...

[I received a copy of this book through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.]I've only read the beginning of Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series, so I'm far from beginning an expert when it comes to her writing. Nevertheless, I definitely wanted to lay my hand on the beginning of this new se...

When the Veil ripped open, allowing magic and magical beings entered the world. The war that followed was devastating, reducing much of the southern US to a devastated war zone – or, as it’s known now, The Zone Now the war is over, Containment controls the Zone and tries to police the remaining fr...

The Veil is the first book in the new Devil’s Isle urban fantasy series by Chloe Neill. The story, told from the first person point-of-view of heroine Claire Connolly, describes a post-war New Orleans (NOLA) that is recovering from a battle between humans and Paranormals (Paras). While the barrier b...

The first book in a new series by the author who writes the Chicagoland Vampires series, one of my favorite go-to UF series for snark and entertaining characters, The Veil started off slowly - so slowly I was a bit worried I was in for a let-down. Seven years ago, the Veil that separates humanity...
