The Weight of Silence is a first novel that reads like a first novel. Although the premise of the story is an interesting one--two little girls go into the woods one morning and only one comes out...and she can't talk--the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The dialog is clunky and awkward, and...

Such a powerful book. So many hard topics are played out in this book making it disturbing to read at times but written in away that makes you unable to stop reading.

This was a selection from one of my book groups and I was half expecting not to like it. First, the story is told in alternating character voices, a format that’s used so often these days that I’m getting rather tired of it. Second, some of the GR reviews I read complained that there was too much me...

I do not normally gravitate towards these kinds of books but I am really glad I decided to pick it up. It was a great story. It was very emotional and very sad but I think that it was well written. Gudenkauf's writing made me feel like I was actually there at times. She is very descriptive but not i...

So I bought this back in August 2009. Yeah, that's how long it's been sitting on my "to be read shelf." And I hate to say this about any book, but um, it should have just stayed there, or even maybe just stayed at the store. It was one of those buy one get one half off, and that's what suckered me i...

I did enjoy this book, Weight of Silence. It was predictable at times, but still kept it's secrets until close to the end. An enjoyable read. There were some sub-stories with the main plot, which keeps interest including the question of what constitutes a good mother. A good summertime read.

I loved this book. I loved the way the chapters were presented featuring each character and thier version of the event that is being described. This is the story of a young girl who stops talking for no apparent reason. She is able to communicate with friends and family quite well, but does not tal...
