An excellent story presented in the words and thoughts (presenting their backstories) of multiple characters in the book. Well-written and thought provoking about how simple words can devastate in the right (or perhaps wrong) circumstances at the right moment especially when delivered to children.

I fell in love with the writing of HG when I read this book..her ability to develop characters, esp the children was magnificent for being a debut author.

There is just something about this book that I couldn't get in to. I let myself get about 50 pages in before I called it quits. I'm not sure if it's the subject matter or just the way it's written, but I wasn't liking it at all. Could just be timing - but as my motto always goes...life's too shor...

I like the way she writes the story from so many people's perspectives, dipping in an out of the different viewpoints of the story. However, the story does take a long time to pick up - I was over halfway through before it really started catching my attention. Cleverly written, and a good story, jus...

If you tell a small child that it will be her fault if something bad happens, she'll probably believe it. If you tell her that something terrible will happen if she doesn't keep quiet, and the terrible thing does happen, she just might feel that she's so much at fault that she'll stop talking at all...
