Enjoyed this story of a long-lived witch and the man who made her that way who wants his payment.

I saw this book on Overdrive and chose it for my Halloween Bingo “Witches” square for no other reason than the title and I guess the blurb sounded vaguely interesting to me, even though the reviews weren’t great. Turns out it was a decent read if you can get past the slow as hell start, but I don’t ...

In the spring of 1628, the Witchfinder of Wessex finds himself a true Witch. As Bess Hawksmith watches her mother swing from the Hanging Tree she knows that only one man can save her from the same fate at the hands of the panicked mob: the Warlock Gideon Masters, and his Book of Shadows. I was curious to get reading The Witch’s Daughter by author Paula Brackston. It sounded interesting and unlike anything I had ever read before and so I was very eager to dive right into the story. I got to page 188 before finally giving up. But I might one day finish this, so I'm adding the page for my own sanity.

The beauty of this book comes from it's keen words and accurate details. The trip we take through time, shadowing Elizabeth's life, is woven with such fine imagery, it felt as if I was witnessing the events first hand...a good sign of any true storyteller.

I was thoroughly impressed for the first half of the book...and then it got a little too weird (not sure that's the word in looking for). at the end I feel like the author did better with the past then she did with the present.

My first note would just be that I would really prefer to give this book 3.5 stars instead of only 3. This is a tale of a witch, whose mother made a deal with a warlock to save her before she herself was killed for being a witch. This book was almost a bonus book, with multiple stories inside it. ...
