Thomas Izbicki is a medieval historian with a background in canon law, history of the medieval Church, including the papacy, and the Dominican Order. He studied with Brian Tierney at Cornell University, receiving his doctorate in Medieval History in 1973. After a career as an itinerant academic, Dr. Izbicki became an academic librarian in 1986. He has held library positions at Wichita State, Johns Hopkins and Rutgers. This work has involved both subject expertise and managerial experience, including negotiating with major publishers.Throughout his library career, Dr. izbicki has continued as a medieval historian, publishing extensively. His experience includes manuscript research and the teaching of the Auxiliary Disciplines of Medieval Studies and Paleography. Dr. Izbicki's current research project is focused on the Eucharist in medieval canon law. His next project will focus on ministry to the dying and burial of the dead in the late medieval Church.Thomas Izbicki also is the treasurer of the Delaware Valley Medieval Association, and he is both past vice president and present treasurer of the American Cusanus Society. In his spare time, he referees books and articles for a number of publishers.
