Yes, I have noticed an incredible speed increase, but I'm feeling too cranky over 10 hours of down time to give them the credit. (< - might be feeling a bit sulky, as well as pissed-off.)

Just wanted to make sure it was something across the board.

I'm feeling just bitchy enough to point out lack of communication despite speed increase, so I understand.
I agree with everything said above. Since a lot of people don’t use them and probably aren’t aware, e-mail notifications are still down. So that’s what, a month and a half?

Even though BL started talking to us again, which can seem like an improvement after dead silence, we still haven’t been given anything except placating posts. They’ve ignored all of our requests for more substantial communication.

Exactly ...

They're ignoring this, and as you've said, no go on e-mail.

One might even wonder why they're even bothering to use the downtime to make improvements.

Look, BL, still a huge fan. But I, and many others, have legitimate complaints and worries here. What the junk is going on?

I don’t know if they necessarily did any work to improve the speed. If the server went down, whether intentionally or accidentally, and then was brought back up, it was effectively rebooted. That in itself could improve the performance temporarily.

This.
Yeah, I don't think this was a planned outage. The last time this happened I was left with the impression (from a comment they made to me on Facebook) that the server crashed during the night in Poland, while they slept, so they didn't know it had been down until they woke up the next morning. Which, I'm sorry BookLikes - you have no bigger fan than I - is complete crap. Server systems today send text messages or other types of alerts when they go down; if BL is paying someone else to host everything, that company should have redundancies in place to avoid downtime.

Regardless - BL needs to tell us something more than "Sorry".
Only us users still use booklikes...The rest (sysadmins, owners,...) have all jumped ship... the last one here, please close the door...

Is that true? Will BL go the way of Leafmarks? I hope not.
I was so frustrated. I had had a day off and spent it commenting on 100+ posts on other sites (yes, I really did that many) and including a link to one of mine. Then the site when down and at least half of that effort was wasted.

Oh, no. That's horrible!!
We really, really need a return to a posting of some sort every Thursday from BL, just to show us you're still there.

No, not petty. I have a lot of things I didn't care about that other people do; I have a lot of things I care about that other people don't.

It wasn't petty. It just means you use the site differently than some, just as I use it differently, just as everyone does. Not petty at all, and it's also incredibly frustrating when something you care about - that perhaps other people don't - used to work, isn't working now, and you're not getting any information.

In other words, that was the most polite way ever to say you miss the e-mails. I tip my invisible hat to you, sir.

Good luck, Susanna. I told them bring back Thursdays, if only to say 'hi, we're here,' a while ago, many, many times. Others did to. When they thought we wanted a new feature on Thursdays, I patiently explained - multiple times - that we simply wanted to know they were still around and that them popping up and letting us know what was what and that they were still there was enough.

We didn't need new features, we just needed communication. I had had enough and said that one theory was that there wasn't a first language English speaker and that, quite frankly, I did not care about proper syntax in this case: I just wanted reassurance as everyone did. I even told them they might consider hiring a native speaker if they were having trouble communicating.

I believe I did this in e-mail, although perhaps not. Regardless, any embarrassment they may have over this is no longer a valid reason for them not talking to us. They've had us say we want them, even using far more broken English than they ever had. We've said we don't want anything else, but please, let us know you're still around and you still care. We've said everything we can.

Regular communication will not resume, not unless they start caring and making this site a priority, or someone else takes over who will. As it stands now, I can't see any reason other than we're bothering them and they can't be bothered.

And I'm now in dysfunctional relationships with both Marvel online and Booklikes. Yay /heavy sarcasm.
