Miss Marjoribanks - Margaret Oliphant
Reading start: 2015-04-01
Reading finish: 2015-03-31
I just downloaded from Amazon.

How did I get into the Thomas Hardy reading group?

I'm not reading that book.

Boy, you join a group and they put you to work before you even have a chance to sit down!
I've read only a couple of chapters and I'm liking this book. The author seems to be liking her main character a great deal and having fun with her writing.
I want to wrap up a few other books first, but I plan on starting this book maybe after the weekend. I've already read the first page or so and love the style so far--if it keeps up the book will be a real treat.
I also have a few books to wrap up before I start this one, but I am really, really looking forward to it! We'll have to see if Miss Marjoribanks is as annoying as Bathsheba Everdene. Also, which Rob Lowe commercial will I be able to reference in my review?
I will be starting this in a day or two, as soon as I finish my current one.
Pickling/storing eggs and gardening are interfering with my reading time!
I'm loving the book so far. Such intrigue!

Did you know that Marjoribanks is pronounced Marchbanks?
I saw this in the introduction after I'd read seven chapters, mentally pronouncing it "Mar-jor-i-banks" each time.

I am liking it, although I have to say that if Lucilla tells someone else that she just "wants to be a comfort to her poor papa," I may rip her face off. ;)
Where is everyone in the book? I want to make some comments, but don't want to spoil for anyone.

I've hit 50% and I have to say this is one of the most delightful books I've had the pleasure of reading. The characters are full of personality and the situations are so much fun. I'm constantly being surprised by what the author comes up with.
I'm only about 5% in, but I should be able to make good progress this weekend.
Just finished the 4th chapter and am wishing I had a Miss Marjoribanks in my life to keep things organised and entertaining.

Marchbanks! Fascinating--thanks for posting that info Sock Poppet--it's a less fancy but more commanding pronunciation, which I guess is fitting.

I wish I could figure out how they arrived at that pronunciation!

Lol!

She should be an officer in the military. She'd win every war imaginable!
I'm at about 12%.
I can't decide if I like her or not.
Need help?
