They've spent months using Gavin to take pop-shots at somebody else and now they want to treat him as proof that all can see the light and be redeemed by the glory of snot. What has he actually done? Made an STGRB approved Tweet?

Your mileage may vary but at latest with emailing them he made the first step in their direction. Nobody forced him to do that, it was his own decision to contact STGRB. Yes, I have seen the posts to the right and to the left, and know how it started. I just think it´s interesting that he turned around, and went to the ugly green hate site, is all. Especially since those sorry little fucks were the ones who started the rumor about him, and in many ways the mess that followed is still ongoing. Anyone who runs to Melissa is a fuckwad in my book.

You're right, but I don't see a step as a declaration, especially not from somebody who is as desperate for validation as Gavin is. There's no need to thank somebody for stopping kicking you in the teeth. The most telling thing about that email is the bit where he says it's all his fault.

I judge *them* for that, especially after the way they crowed about him apologising and making him their new best friend.
