See, I loved Widdershins so much when I first read it, because Percy was NOT the sort of guy like in that scene. M/M is or was at the time 99% those "whiskey scene guys" and I find them boring.

Now that a few other authors also write everymen or even shy/repressed guys, and/or I found them, the impact of Widdershins is lessened. Sure. These days I e.g. would prefer a Nicholas or an Edward to Percy. I also adored that Percy didn't drop his trousers at a wink from Griffin, and they didn't just roll in the sack. The progression was--for m/m romance--slow and logical in how it slowly brought on acceptance and overcame barriers.
I much preferred the dialogue to the action. There were a few lines that were quite lovely. I made it a point to remember them but it was in the middle of the night. So, yeah, I remember only that there were some lovely lines. :) Christine was pretty good despite her resemblance to Amelia Peabody, because she supported Percy and Griffin without coming out and Saying what it was she was supporting. I liked that. I think what brought this book down for me was that, like Jenn, I didn't really connect with Percy. But that isn't surprising. I rarely love books that are in first person. Too much in one character's head and not enough in the other's.
Kate, totally off topic here but I don't know how to start new ones. Did you, or anyone, read both the early version and the published version of Sonny Hassel's After Midnight? I remember absolutely loving the early version because of Gordon's vulnerability. But he doesn't seem the same in the published version. I just started so I could be wrong. I get confused. Especially when I read the first one so very long ago.
I'm glad my memory was correct. I fell in love with the old Gordon to an extent that this new and improved one isn't going to hold up very well. Smart- asses are a dime a dozen. Now is the time to convince myself that this is a different book altogether. I do like reading Adam's perspective though.
49% So I liked that bit with them and the gas and the explosion. It was fun. The intimate scene I liked b/c it was sweet and felt pretty natural for a total virgin. The use of the word "member" isn't really for me, but that's a personal quirk.

I will finish this!
Oh and Ival is a terrible shortening. Agreed.

Yes. Agreed as well. I thought it's a curious shortening.
