Genre: Animals / Family / Friendship / Adventure Year Published: 1958 Year Read: 2010 Publisher: HarperCollins I have read many books by Tomi Ungerer and I have just recently stumbled upon this book called “Crictor.” “Crictor” is a French story by Tomi Ungerer and it is about how an old f...
Genre: Monsters / Friendship / Contest Year Published: 1971 Year Read: 1993 I have actually first heard of this book on a children’s video series called Weston Woods and I enjoyed it back then and I enjoy it now! “The Beast of Monsieur Racine” is a children’s book by Tomi Ungerer, which is abo...
None of us liked it. I picked it up because the cover image is so striking, and I'd just been saying I'd like to live on a cool, damp, northen island. But I didn't like the illustrations, I wasn't at all sure whether this was supposed to be set in the present or some former, folksyier time, and some...
The three robbers live in the forest. With their blunderbuss, their pepper spray and their huge axe, they hold up travellers and plunder them of their goods. They have accumulated a gigantic horde of gold in their cave. The rest of this review is in my book If Research Were Romance and Other Implausi...
Camp Concentration by Disch and Otto by Tom Ungererhttp://www.goodreads.com/review/show/475907240A pair made in a sort of hell, I guess, birthday books read back to back. I don’t understand why Otto is badly written, when the author is obviously capable of writing good text in English. If you want t...
Ungerer loves outsiders: Crictor is about a kind snake, and Flix is a dog born to a pair of cats. Orlando, which I found today at Librairie du Boulevard while looking for something else, shows that even vultures can be heroes. The eponymous bird comes across an American gold prospector dying of thir...
We were in Strasbourg yesterday, and I couldn't resist buying this little book: it's mostly pictures of cats in Ungerer's inimitable style, with no words. Here are a few examples I found on the web:At the end, there is a short biographical section about Ungerer's two beloved cats Piper and Heidsieck...
An autobiography about the children's author Tomi Ungerer his life in Alsace under the Nazi Occupation. The Three Robbers was a favorite of my children. Here is a link about that book at You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBqdcvAkjWk . The autobiography sounds stunning! A child's life in Franc...
Fable about a down-on-his luck war vet who suddenly acquires a magic flying hat. The story is nothing special, but Ungerer's illustrations are as usual full of sly jokes. Not yet play-tested, but my guess is that small children would like it.
