The wizards of the Unseen University love their food, alcohol, and tradition which Lord Vetinari exploits to ensure that the chaotic football matches taking place get under control. Unseen Academicals is Terry Pratchett’s 37th Discworld book and the last focusing on Rincewind and the wizards of the...

This book was semi-entertaining, but it definitely won’t be one of my favorites from Discworld. I also think I was a little misled by the Discworld chart I’ve been referencing. The chart lists this as part of the Rincewind series, but he hardly appears in the book at all and has very little to do ...

In “Unseen Academicals”, Terry Pratchett lifts the working-class football subculture that I grew up with (when players were as local as the teams, and being Red or Blue depended on your religion and was religion in its own right) and holds it like a diamond to the light. As always he weaves wisdom...

I was not a huge fan of this book. On the face of it, it should have been a great fit for me - I love watching football, I love Ankh-Morpork, and I love a good love story. But I was went into this book with trepidation as I'd heard "less-than-good" things about the story from sources that I trust....

I've never been a sports fan, unless I were actually doing the sport in question, but I found a discworld adaptation of a sport completely apropo and more than a little snide. Fortunately for those of us who don't care too much about sports in-general, the reoccurring characters more than make up fo...

Another great Terry Pratchett book. If you love Terry Pratchett's discworld and you are a lover of foot the ball - football to you and me - then I'm sure you will love this story. I particularly liked the 2 little sort of love stories that were interwoven, between Mr Nutt (a rather civilized and k...

Entertaining, but not my favorite Pratchett novel.

I have really hard time reading it, even though it's my favourite setting (Ankh-Morpork) and with Vetinari appearing quite often. Right now, I'm trying for the third time.

The latest in the discworld novels sees Ankh morpork's traditional game of foot-the-ball turned on it's head. No longer is it something along the lines of the Eton wall game, where a man such as Dave Likely might score so many as 4 goals in a lifetime. instead it is transmuted into a beautiful game ...
