Vandermeer's writing takes some time to get used to, but it's well worth the effort. Well, at least his short stories are.

Short. Very surreal & at times a bit arty. While I didn’t exactly enjoy it, I didn’t hate it either. The Author’s afterward helps you understand more about his thought processes and the way the story developed. The fact that you need the afterward for this says a lot!
