I am pretty on board with the philosophy that the author is trying to put forward, but I just really can't stand the overdone writing with all its flourishes and tangents. Another era I suppose. I'll try to find a summary of the main philosophical ideas somewhere else. DNF.

So, Walden. There's some nice, flowery prose here. Also some overly discursive and recursive prose that I found tedious. But overall, and I'm writing this as someone who's happiest living out in the woods where I can't see my neighbors, the book drove me bonkers. His privilege is suffocating. ...

In a world of fast paced activities, Thoreau is a friend that won't mind to sit with you in your solitude. There is a time to act and decide, there is a time to stop and think. This book helps you do the latter. I wish I can have my own cottage one day.

So I picked up Walden after coming across it while researching an ecology essay for a subject I did called A History Of Nature. And look, I really wanted to love it. But unfortunately, and it always feels unfortunate when my hopes are unfulfilled, I only just kinda liked it. I appreciated it - most ...

While I agree with what I've read on principal the majority of this book is pretty dull.
