The underwater kingdom is his as soon as he claims his queen… Rod Tritone has the looks and charm to snag any queen he wants for his Mer kingdom, but unfortunately, it's not up to him. As fate would have it, the one woman destined to rule with him is terrified of water… She lives in land-locked Kansas and has no idea she's a princess… Valerie Dumere thinks Rod is gorgeous and irresistible—but why does he keep insisting she has another side to herself that only he can show her? Somehow, Rod has to prove to her who she really is. But when she finds out the truth, will she ever forgive him? More like 3.5 stars. I liked the first book better, since I had a lot of trouble getting into this one, although I think part of that is because I wanted to read something else (not sure what, but still) Maybe I'm getting burnt out again?

Overall, I liked it. My big issue is how easily Valerie left with Rob without demanding an explanation and when she would ask, he wouldn't tell her because (in his mind) she wouldn't understand. This, after being attacked by birds and a talking seagull. I thought she was too easily lead.

I didn't like Valerie Dumere at all. She is easily led and traipses off with Rod Tritone without the slightest idea why. Rod pussy-foots around the reason for the coast visit with some bogus inheritance thing but doesn't actually explain what is going on until that last few chapters of the book. ...

Honestly? I thought the world building was beyond amazing. The romance was nice, but I was seriously reading it for the animals. Like, it all was good, but I cannot stress enough about the sparrows.
