Because I read somewhere that The Moonstone was the first detective mystery novel, and because I’ve read very few mysteries not written in the last 50 years or so, I expected a different sort of book. I was looking for an early Poirot or Sherlock Holmes, and instead found it more like a romance with...

What can I say other than the book is worth the hype? I wasn't sure at the start; I listened to the audiobook version - which was excellently done - and Gabriel Betteredge's opening narrative is... trying. I loved his character the best and the narrator who played his part played it to the hilt...

3.5 stars. An short and fun snifter mystery/romance. Unfortunately this book has some editing problems, and a couple of them are really irritating. That said, you can find MM books with worse editing problems out there. At least this one has an engaging story and no ultra stupid dialogues! :)

Anderson as a reader is rather interesting. At one point, I was like, "I'm not sure how I feel about this voice" and then I was like, "There it is". So, this is Collins' ghost story about a woman who may be haunted. It's a good ghost story, and unlike his contemporary, Dickens, Collins does wri...

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review consideration.Redworld: Year One was a solid middle-grade sci-fi read. The author does a great job of keeping the writing on a level her readers can understand. With relatively few words, she builds a bare minimum type world on...

There stood Miss Rachel at the table, like a person fascinated, with the Colonel's unlucky Diamond in her hand. There, on either side of her, knelt the two Bouncers, devouring the jewel with their eyes, and screaming with ecstasy every time it flashed on them in a new light. There, at the opposite s...

Come i lettori che dal 26 novembre 1859 al 25 agosto 1860 seguirono ammaliati le vicende de “La donna in bianco” uscite a puntate sulla rivista “All the Year Round” dell’amico e collega di Wilkie Collins, Charles Dickens, altrettanto fanno i lettori di oggi. Il segreto del fascino narrativo lo svelò...
Philosophical Musings of a Book Nerd
I had no idea that this book existed until my bookclub decided to make it the book of the month. In fact I had never heard of Wilkie Collins until this book was mentioned in passing. As it turns out (or at least according to some of the members of my bookclub) Wilkie lived under the shadow of Charle...
