'Your investigation is going nowhere,' the speaker addressed three men, 'I need to take charge. Can you recommend a private investigator?'

'Sir,' New York Police Commissioner Bruce Rolando began, 'We're doing everything -'

'Everything's not enough.' Hiram Constantin cut him off. He didn't shout. He didn't need to. He was a billionaire. When he spoke, people listened. He donated generously to the NYPD Foundation. He played golf with the mayor.

'My daughter's in danger. There have been two attempts made on her already. I'll handle this on my own. Surely you know some good PIs to recommend one?'

Rolando regarded him expressionlessly. Detectives Pizaka and Chang looked on, stone-faced. They knew what their boss was thinking. Constantin would appoint an investigator whether the NYPD liked it or not. It would be better if he selected one the cops knew.

'Have you heard of Beth and Meghan Petersen? ' the commissioner asked.

'Can't say I have. They're investigators?'

'They are a bit more than that.'

A curious sound escaped Pizaka, a snort. All eyes turned on him.

'You know them, Detective?' the billionaire asked him.

'Yes, sir,' Pizaka replied. 'The commissioner's right. They aren't mere investigators.'

'What are they?'

'My partner and I...we call them the Wrecking Team.'
