Originally I gave the book 4 stars, but then I found out that it was a true story, and so not only did the guy actually have an affair with a child, he capitalized on the affair by passing it off as "fiction."What an asshole.
For those out there who have condemned me for posting a review that wasn't about a book, this is about the book which may be based on a true story that victimized a child. The most moving parts of this novel were when the author was quoting other people's words, and teaching other people's concepts. Maksik's prose is plain in a way that isn't dramatic in its starkness, it's just a bare recounting that tries to be poignant but ends up feeling emotionless. It's a good s...
Thinly disguised self-justifying tale of a teacher who raped his 15 year old student. And you know, this is why I just can't stand up for Lolita these days. See Elizabeth's review for why I won't read this book.
Couldn't put it down. Read the whole thing in one bite.

The Will Silver character is Maksik himself. http://jezebel.com/5863188/how-a-teachers-alleged-student-affair-became-his-acclaimed-novelWith this new development, I'm going to leave the book without a rati...
Truly a steller novel, full of earnest, human moments.I recomend to anyone who has the chance to read it.
