Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig is an iconic story chronicling a father-son American West motorcycle journey, peppered with philosophical musings and observations on American culture. This was a (530 page) book which I truly could not put down. Though Pirsig touches on ...

This is one of those books that I am wondering why it actually took me so long to get around to reading. I guess a part of it had to do with the title (when I was somewhat more fundamentalist in my faith, anything that reeked of another religion would be automatically discarded), but then I guess it...

I had to read this book in high school. It was an arduous slog, since philosophy has never really been a great interest of mine. To this day, I don't know why we read it for English class, or what I was supposed to get out of it. All I remember about it was the shock therapy.

This book came to me at a strange time. Normally I would give a book like this two stars and be done with it. But not now. I am going through something of a minor existential crisis, and as a result, I am taking some time off so as to focus on things of import. The plot of this book is not really ...

It will go back int...

I've met well-educated 20 year olds who'd read this more than a dozen times. Although I read this in my 20s as well, I can't remember much from 1 reading. I do remember seeing an entire shelf of economics books at a university library, just trying to "define" the concept of value.

Ugh ugh ugh!! Pretentious blather is all I can say about the Zen parts. Kind of enjoyed some of the travel sections but even they got tedious after a while. The author and his son, Chris stopped enjoying their trip so there was not much pleasant to say about it from then on. The most interesting ...

Actually, I am listening to a free MP3 version of this book which was available through The Guardian newspaper web site until Feb. 5th. -------------Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is on my short list of the most influential books I've ever read. This is my third read and I am listening to...
