It was so strange! My favorite kind of strange. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention.
I agree. Great review. I am a huge fan of Spanish horror. Rec totally freaked me out. I also loved the movies that you mentioned. I saw a short movie called The Baby's Room that was great too. Of course I love Zafon's Shadow of the Wind and Perez-Reverte's The Club Dumas as well.

I've seen Rec both versions but not the sequels. Are they any good? I'll have to look up the other films you mentioned because I haven't seen any of them. Thanks for the recommendations!
I flove Pan's Labyrinth!

I need to watch it again soon.
I don't think that the REC sequels were nearly as good as the original, which was so claustrophobic and creepy. And so original---and damn scary. The other two were fun but obviously just add ons. Shadow of the Wind and The Club Dumas are both books. Carlos Ruiz Zafon's The Shadow of the Wind is like a love-child of Charles Dickens and Edgar Allen Poe. One of my all time favorite books. There are two more in the series that are also very good. The Club Dumas is by Arturo Perez-Reverte and was made into a movie called The Ninth Gate with Johnny Depp. The book is much better with so much more detail. Reverte's other books are good too, especially The Flanders Panel and The Fencing Master, but those two are not horror.

Pan's Labyrinth is a mind blower but I also loved "The Orphanage" and "The Devil's Backbone."
