They sound like two very interesting ladies. It takes real guts to buck the system when you have little power and a lot to lose.

It seems kind of funny that whenever women fantasize about the romance of another century, they assume they would be living an upper class life. Given that 100 years ago my family were illiterate tenant farmers fresh off the boat, I'm certain that my life in another century would have been anything but romantic.

Yeah, people keep telling me I was born in the wrong century because of how much I love history and I always give them this crazy look. No, I was not born in the wrong century. I happen to like indoor toilets, jeans, cars, refrigeration, microwaves, fast food, cheap books, internet, TV, and not dying of horrible diseases. Thank you very much.

This book is sounding so good. I can't wait to read your final review.

Wait til I quote about her husband. He was massively supportive of her, in a way that will make you say "awwwww." Plus he wrote her scads of love poetry.

And omg YES whenever you remind people of the situation with toilets - or chamberpots - everyone immediately reverts to being sooooo happy in this century. Some things no one can be nostalgic over!
