It was OK. There was much that I liked, including the vividness of the writing. But while Allende’s style enhances the mystical quality of the story, it can also be fatiguing to work through and this was not a short novel.

The first half of the book is essentially plotless and meanders imaginatively into various bizarre corners. The second half does discover a sort of plot using some characters and events from the first half, but it never really coalesces into much of a story. I give the book bonus points for imagery...
