Well that was a bust. This entire book from beginning to end just felt lazy. I rather Penny had written a one off with Gamache trying to take down the evil doers and we could then get a full fledged mystery next time. Instead we had Gamache and company half assing a murder investigation while Gama...
Evaine's Books, Books and More Books
How the Light Gets In is, in my humble opinion, the best Inspector Gamache novel yet, hands down. This is the 9th Gamache book and it seems as if we've been building towards this tale and this climax from the very beginning of the series. Well, I guess it doesn't just seem that way, we actually...

This book recaptured much of what I love about this series that seems to have been lost in the last couple of installments. It reads much like a final wrap up, so I look forward to seeing what the new path is in the remaining novels.

Talk about suspense! I was so anxious about how this one was going to end. I'm very happy to have finished it without having a heart attack. Five stars!

5 stars. #9 in the series. I have tried to read all of these in order, that is my preference with any series, book, television, movie, etc. Could this possibly be the final book in the series? I guess I'll just see!

Super short review because I'm running out of ways to gush over Louise Penny's books (and maybe because I'm super tired). I'm glad I had a day off work so I could finish this book. While it was largely an exercise in frustration, it was ultimately a satisfying one. I was a bit disappointed that Ga...

I liked this book right up to the end when Reine-Marie remembers her conversation with Jean-Guy about Armand and then I thought why spoil this ending? It would have been perfect without this change, if it really was a change by the author. I think retirement would have been a ...
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
I stayed up all night because I could not put this book down. I read it in one sitting. Looked up at the clock at one point, saw it was a perfectly ghastly hour, and didn't care. Had to finish book! So damn you, Louise Penny! I could have used some sleep. This series is just getting better an...

This is a very special series, and Louise Penny a truly remarkable mystery writer. I read mysteries, on occasion, but they're not books to which I get greatly attached. Generally, they are light fluff. I'm not sure you could have convinced me that reading a mystery would reduce me to big soppy tears...

When I first saw this title, I laughed internally and thought unto myself, "Ahh, again with the Leonard Cohen. I wonder if that's what this quote is?"I'm listening to the second book in this series. Clara, the artiste, has that very quote on her studio wall. So...there we go.
