I'm a Jennifer who goes mostly by Jen, an Oklahoma girl who's also lived in Connecticut and England, and a writer who has a not-so-secret double life as a cognitive scientist. I love pop culture, mythology, science, superheroes, Joss Whedon, guacamole, television targeted at teenagers, and any song that I know the lyrics to. I have no sense of direction, but can read a book and shower at the same time. As is probably obvious, I do not particularly excel at writing my own bios.I started writing professionally when I was a teenager and completed my first four published novels while I was in college. Since then, I've split my time between various graduate programs and writing books. In May 2012, I graduated from Yale University with a PhD in Developmental Psychology, which basically means I spent a lot of time thinking about the way the mind works and designing and running experiments that probe the way that young children and non-human primates view the world. My background in the psychological sciences has a habit of working its way into the books I write, sometimes in unexpected ways. As a reader, I love strong female characters, books that blend emotional depth with sarcasm and humor, and supernatural stories that feel real. I'm a sucker for romance and search out authors who can write action sequences and violence without pulling their punches.

I love rich people stories and even more ones about regular people who are thrown into that over the top gla...

YA and I are in a weird relationship lately, and it's definitely making it harder for me to review books like Little White Lies. This is a book that made me giggle, endeared me to its characters, but then ran way longer than it probably should have. It's rough to sit in that middle ground where you ...

(Whoops, the character I kept calling "Derek" is actually named Dean. I think I fixed all the instances.) The Naturals is YA Criminal Minds with some of the usual “secret school for special teens” mixed in. I read an ARC copy I picked up at a conference several years ago (yes, I'm terrible about r...

Rating: 5 StarsOMG what an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G end to a F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C series! I am really sad that this series is over, but I will certainly be rereading it again soon. What gives this book 5 stars?1.) The cover is perfect, and I love how it matches all the other covers in the series with a general th...

Everything came full circle in this book. Lia got some closure. Michael was freed from his father. Cassie found her mother. Okay, granted she killed her. But she found her. Silver lining. And it wasn't her choice anyway so... We get to learn so much about Cassie's past with her mother. Was shocked b...
