The world now lies divided not amongst political or geographic boundaries but amongst financial ones.
Wealth is power, and that power rests now with only a handful of Families. The few who provide a service for their ruling Family are cared for.
All others are Waste.
Joe and Bobbie Barret are Waste, who have struggled for years to raise their children under the eyes of the Carlyle Family. When their home is destroyed, their only hope of survival lies with Lift Selection, five hundred miles away in the city of Denver.
And in Los Angeles, Forever Carlyle, the genetically-engineering Lazarus of her Family, struggles with deception, betrrayal, and acts of terror perpetuated by a group known as The Free.
Prepare to be tested.

3.5 Lazarus Vol. 2 Lift
I liked this 2nd volume more than the first. Probably because it expanded beyond Forever and let us see some of how the "waste" live. it also gave us some back history on Forever and how she's struggling with the message that her family is not her family and that is not her father. She keeps looking...

3.5 Family Ties
I had trouble rating this because it lacks the impact of the first volume. Forever seems to get lost in the shuffle, and she was less defined as a character. Although I felt the flashbacks give more insight into Forever's relationship with her 'father.' The new storyline about the Barrett family, wh...

4.0 Lazarus, Vol. 2: Lift by Michael Lark (author) Greg Rucka (author)
Lazarus, Vol 2.: Lift is a satisfying continuation of the dystopian story begun in Lazarus: Family. The truce between the Moray and Carlyle "Families" is holding and Forever continues to question her role. Where Family established the setting and introduced the mafia-style rule of the Family, Lift...

In volume 2 Rucka gives us a dark riff on the Grapes of Wrath. This is dark but good stuff that you should be reading. http://fedpeaches.blogspot.com/2014/08/depressing-but-daamn-thats-good.html
