Michael McCarty has been a professional writer since 1983 and the author of over thirty books of fiction and nonfiction, as well as hundreds of articles, short stories and poems. In 2009 he was named as finalist, along with collaborator Mark McLaughlin, in two different Bram Stoker Award categories: Best First Novel of 2008 for MONSTER BEHIND THE WHEEL (Corrosion Press/Delirium Books -- republished as an ebook from Medallion Press) and Best Poetry Collection of 2008 for ATTACK OF THE TWO-HEADED POETRY MONSTER(Skullvines Press). He received the 2008 David R. Collins' Literary Achievement Award from the Midwest Writing Center. In 2005, he was a Bram Stoker finalist in the nonfiction category for MORE GIANTS OF THE GENRE (Wildside Press). He is the author of I KISSED A GHOUL, a YA book (Noble Young Adult). Co-author of NIGHT OF THE SCREAM QUEEN (with Linnea Quigley) (Dark Moon Books) and LOST GIRL OF THE LAKE (with Joe McKinney) (Bad Moon Books). His short stories and interviews have appeared in a wide variety of magazines and anthologies including Fangoria, Cemetery Dance, Starlog, Filmfax, ON WRITING HORROR (A Handbook by the Horror Writers Association, edited by Mort Castle), MIDNIGHT PREMIERE and IN LAYMON TERMS (both anthos from Cemetery Dance publications). His nonfiction collection, ESOTERIA-LAND from Bear Manor Media, presents an eclectic mix of his articles, interviews, and reviews. McCarty's first solo novel, a vampire satire called LIQUID DIET, was released in 2009 release by Black Death/Demonic Clown Books and republished as an ebook as LIQUID DIET & MIDNIGHT SNACK: 2 VAMPIRE SATIRES from Whiskey Creek Press. McCarty was the former staff writer for Science Fiction Weekly (the official website of the Sci-Fi Channel). He currently writes the column Vampire Mania for Graveside Tales.com.
