This may be more timely then when it was written. Winston Smith is not following the Party's rhetoric. He is thinking and realizes he has other memories and thoughts than what the Party wants good Party members to have. He finally sees a way to rebel but the Party gets to him. There is so much ...

Do you think it matters greatly that Orwell may have plagearised a good portion of "Nineteen Eighty-Four" because of the significance of the novel? Funny how soon this novel has passed the 60 years mark and we're just now "finding this all out". In our world - the age of the internet, it seems these...

I've been meaning to reread this for a while and I'm glad I finally got around to it. A lot has been said about this book, but I guess for me it represents an interesting way to look at human psychology and the nature of truth and doublethink (the cognitive dissonance is awesome). Really the only ...

This book is quite terrifying. I think most everyone but me has read it or was forced to read it in high school. I was a delinquent student and missed out on this book somehow and decided to read it now. Don’t ask me why. It is perhaps a very bad time to decide to read this book about a world where ...

...more relevant than ever! Everyone should read this at least once in their lives! It should also be mandatorily read in school (this counts for Austria, as I don't think students have to read this here).

I think almost everything has already been said and written about 1984, so I will just add some thoughts of my own. The concept of 1984 is so interesting and at the same time terrifying that it really intrigued me, especially in the way things have turned out. When I first read it I was around 18 an...

1984 is probably THE book when it comes to dystopian fiction, it is a canonical or if you like „classic“ novel, but now I wonder if it really deserves this status. My dystopian October readings included Evgenij Zamjatins We, which was actually the blueprint for 1984 (believe it or not, but since Orwe...

Started of great. I got pulled in to Winstons 1984 world. The whole big brother is watching, the elite ruling the masses. But then near the end I started to lose interest and felt the nicely flowing tale was rushed to end.

So I'm on a mission to read several dystopians before I get sick of it like I did with the vampires. This one while as disturbing as Brave New World, and seems to be relevant for the 2017-2021 years at the moment, I didn't enjoy it like I did with Brave New World. That being said it is a bit more ...

I am so disappointed and so jealous. I'm jealous of those who read this book and loved it so much they gave it 5 stars. I can see why it's a classic and I can see why so many would love this book but I did not.Parts of it (especially Book 2 - Chapter 9) read like an economic and political textbook a...
