Book Two of the All Souls Trilogy plunges Diana and Matthew into Elizabethan London, a world of spies and subterfuge, and a coterie of Matthew’s old friends, the mysterious School of Night. The mission is to locate a witch to tutor Diana and to find traces of Ashmole 782, but as the net of Matthew’s past tightens around them they embark on a very different journey, one that takes them into heart of the 1,500 year old vampire’s shadowed history and secrets. For Matthew Clairmont, time travel is no simple matter; nor is Diana’s search for the key to understanding her legacy.

Shadow of Night brings us a rich and splendid tapestry of alchemy, magic, and history, taking us through the loop of time to deliver a deepening love story, a tale of blood, passion, and the knotted strands of the past.

4.5 Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
Season two of the tv show started and I knew I had to read Shadow of Night before watching it. This book is better than the first. The first now feels more like an introduction to me. This one was exciting from beginning to end, and it literally picks up where the first story leaves off. We learn so...

3.5 "Shadow Of Night - All Souls Trilogy #2" by Deborah Harkness
A low-key, gently entertaining read with an uneven pace and very little tension. "Shadow Of Night" was a slightly disappointing book that I'm hoping will make excellent television (my DVD copy of "A Discovery Of Witches Season 2" arrives next month). It starts immediately where the cliff-hange...

3.0 Shadow of Night
I would have given this more stars but I found that this book dragged on. I believe most of this book could have been left out. I felt there was too many chapters that had no relevance to the story, but hindered it. I shall read the final book at a later date.

A gripping read. Author's talent lies in making each page interesting and not having too many parallel, confusing story lines.

3.0 The discovery of Diana
This book picks up the story where the first of the series left it with Diana and Matthew landing in the past. Even if there were certain elements that made this book interesting I found it extremely slow moving: I get that the author wanted probably to give a taste of the 15th century London E...
