Potrzebował aż dwudziestu lat, by wreszcie spisać te rodzinne opowieści z całym dobrodziejstwem i przekleństwem odniesień biblijnych, baśniowych, literackich, politycznych; uświadomił nam, że "plemiona skazane na sto lat samotności nie mają już drugiej szansy na ziemi".
